You may have noticed that Dubsmash videos are all over the net. Videos of different people are continually going around our timelines and the wave (unfortunately) hasn’t stopped yet. Personally, I get really entertained in watching some. Even I, out of boredom and as my own source of entrainment, have tried making a couple. It takes a lot of tries to perfect the dubbing, or simply to be in sync. Hassle, but for some ulit lang ng ulit hanggang sa ma perfect. Aliw eh?
So last Wednesday, I had some free times at the office and I cannot think of anything else to do after having lunch. I was thinking of a way to entertain myself then I came across this Kris Aquino dubsmash on my Facebook feed. It got me laughing; I mean Kris Aquino dubs are totally witty; perhaps it’s the way she speaks, her hysterical laugh, and..Darla. So what happened next was, I did a couple of Kris Aquino dubsmash videos too! I did several dubs, and I did find some of them really hilarious. I thought of uploading them on Instagram, but 15 seconds ain’t enough to include the ones I like. (And uploading them individually would be really annoying) so what I did was, I compiled all of them and put it up on Facebook instead! And that has got to be one of the best decisions I made in my entire life– seriously.
I uploaded it last Wednesday afternoon. I made the video accessible to the public; I thought some people might find it funny and amusing, too. In the first few hours I’ve come to notice one thing…. The views, likes and shares were greatly and continually increasing. If I am not mistaken, I only had six thousand views in the first four hours. At that time, I was so happy to see that my video has gained thousands of views already; I mean I didn’t think it would go viral. I was honestly stoked. On that evening the video reached hundred thousand views. Some Facebook pages began sharing my video as well. The number of shares began to increase, along with the number of views and likes. I started receiving multiple messages from different people also! And I really do take time to read and respond to each one of them so I could at least show my appreciation.
Then on Thursday evening, my video reached a friggin MILLION views and more than 50,000 likes. I, IN ALL HONESTY, DID NOT SEE THAT COMING. I thought I could only reach hundreds of thousands or something, then that’s it– the video would simply vanish just like that. The fact that I reached one million views in just a day was hard to swallow; it was unbelievable. I am overwhelmed and gobsmacked by all the comments and messages (attention, basically) I’ve been receiving, sobrang nakakatuwa! I didn’t think I am capable of making thousands of people laugh by just being my complete self. I didn’t expect any of this at all, and I am beyond happy and thankful. 🙂 This is definitely one for the books.
Some of my videos were also featured on TV earlier this evening!!! My parents and I were at the office when my sister texted my mother about it. She said her friend saw a snippet of my video in a commercial of Mga Kwento ni Mark Logan. So they turned the television on instantly. My father was standing in front of the TV with his iPad (yes, he recorded the whole dubsmash segment). Then after a couple of random dubsmash videos from different people, there goes my part…. I was dumbstruck to see myself on TV, I find it kind of funny for some reason. Weird. Everyone in the office (Including my parents) were screaming each time I appear on the screen! While I was just sitting at the back, trying to keep a poker face. Haha! It was indeed a dream come true but.. *some text missing* ..I don’t know
(Janeeva’s video was also shown, by the way!)
I also do take time to read and scroll through video comments and share (captions). Can’t help but smile when I read such things like..
Nakakatuwa lang sa pakiramdam. 🙂 But to tell everyone honestly, it’s not really about the fame and the attention I am getting (at the moment); it’s more about the pleasure of knowing that you made people smile/laugh/happy (even just for a while). Mas fulfilling eh? Because this, what I am experiencing right now, for all we know, is only temporary. My video and I will soon be forgotten and everything will be back to normal as if nothing happened– just like that. But be that as it may, I will always look back on to this moment of my life.
Not everyone gets to make thousands of people laugh all at the same time; and that, I believe, is something to be proud of. *wink*
